Should i spay / neuter my cat?

This is a question that often time asked to us, "Should i spay / neuter my cat?" and "why should i?" and the answer always the same, "YES" and here is why you should...

First, is the natural behavior of cat, when cat is not spayed / neuter; adult male cat, will be more protective to their territorial and spray (like peeing) every where they want to mark their territorial / belonging, and adult male cat in heat will try to ease / reduce the heat by looking for female cat, they will fill uneasy, restless. Male cat can roaming until 2 km, and away around 2 week. If the male cat kept indoor, they will get stress, angry and depressed cat.

In female cat in heat, unlike male cat, they don't spraying and roaming, but female cat feel high heat and become very uneasy, they will "calling" (meow - ing loudly, regularly) hoping for male cat attention. If female cat kept indoor, and don't met any male, they will get stress and depressed cat.

This is the main reason we have to spay / neuter our cat, often time, stressed cat can cause the fur-parent also stressed, and vise versa, if this happen in long time, not good for both cat and cat-parent. After spay/ neuter, can become more relax and they loose their "wild-nature" (spraying and heat).

Second reason, is of course spayed/ neutered cat will only have their personality, if they funny- will become funny cat, if they calm- will become calm cat, or energetic-will become energetic cat; its like fairy tail, at the end, happy cat-- happy paw-rent.

People often said that, after spay/neuter cat will be lazy and fat; and this is totally wrong. After spayed / neuter they will not roaming and more calm, but if they have "playing" time daily, have good food / good diet, cat will not get fat.

Third reason, is to control birth and not killing / death. Many many times, i heard some paw-rent want to let their cat mating and have babies; so they know the pleasure of mating and because it natural.

For this reason, personally my explanation is; animal is not like human, thinking "i want to  have sex, it feel good" animal mating, because of their hormone, and they feel heat in their body; the way to relieve heat, is to mating.

Other reason is because cat in heat very often, every month; and for female cat, they can have another baby in few month. And this often time, cause paw-rent to get overwhelmed and because of this many many kitten get thrown away, some died and some become unhealthy stray cat. This what we don't want to happen.

Last reason, relate to money, cost of spay/ neuter; in Bali, there is many many community that have free spay / neuter service, or donation based service. The best one we know is Seva Bhuvana / BaliPet Crusader.
